The InsideTracker Gut Health blood test measures the 6 blood values InsideTracker uses to score gut health: fasting glucose, HbA1c, hs-CRP, cortisol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Here you buy exactly that panel, drawn at a certified Dutch lab.

Your gut influences more than digestion: blood sugar regulation, inflammation and stress are closely linked to it. These values make that measurable.

Why this test?

InsideTracker gives members a Gut Health score from 0 to 100, calculated from a fixed set of blood values. If you search for InsideTracker in the Netherlands, you usually want those values measured without a membership and without shipping a sample to the United States.

This blood test is that alternative: the same 6 blood values behind the Gut Health category, drawn at a certified Dutch lab and returned digitally in your account, with an assessment by a BIG-registered doctor.

Who is this test for?

This panel may suit people who want to track their gut health objectively. It can be relevant for:

  • People who want the InsideTracker Gut Health category measured in the Netherlands
  • People with recurring digestive complaints who want a broader picture alongside their GP's advice
  • People who want to see how stress and blood sugar relate to their digestion
  • People who want to follow the effect of a change in diet

What is tested?

This panel measures 6 blood values:

What can this test tell you?

The results show how your blood sugar regulation, your inflammation value, your cortisol and your lipids compare to the reference ranges. Together they give an impression of processes closely linked to gut health.

If you want to look beyond this one area, our InsideTracker blood test measures 36 blood values in one go. Keep in mind that a single value is not a diagnosis: your results only gain meaning in combination with your symptoms and history.

How is the sample collected?

For this blood test, a staff member draws a small tube of blood at a certified location. You can choose from 700+ collection sites, so there is almost always a location near you.

You only need your appointment confirmation and a valid ID. The draw usually takes just a few minutes.

When is this test useful?

Some people choose to measure these values:

  • When they want an objective starting point before changing their diet
  • When they want to see whether stress shows up in their cortisol and blood sugar
  • When they want to follow up on a previously elevated inflammation value
  • When they want to repeat their US InsideTracker measurement in the Netherlands

What do the results mean?

What the results mean depends on your personal situation. Each value is compared to a reference range, but a value outside that range does not automatically mean something is wrong.

Always discuss any deviating values with your GP, so you know what the results may mean for you personally.

Preparation

For your glucose, insulin-sensitive values and lipids, fasting before the draw is advisable. For your cortisol, a morning draw is most informative, because cortisol follows a daily rhythm.

Drink enough water on the day of the draw. If in doubt, discuss your situation with your GP.

What happens after the results?

You receive your results digitally in your account, usually within a few working days. For each value, you can see whether it falls within the reference range.

Every blood test result includes a professional assessment from a BIG-registered doctor. For treatment decisions, discuss your results with your GP.

This blood test measures the same 6 blood values. The difference: you need no membership and your blood is drawn at a Dutch lab instead of being shipped.
No, you can request this blood test yourself online. You can then discuss your results with your GP.
Yes, fasting is advisable for your glucose and lipids. Preferably plan a morning draw, which also makes your cortisol most informative.
No. This is a blood test, not a stool test. It measures blood values closely linked to gut health, such as inflammation, blood sugar regulation and stress.
You usually receive your results within a few working days, digitally in your account.

What's Included

This panel covers 6 biomarkers related to your training, recovery, and overall health.

Fasting glucose measures the level of sugar (glucose) in your blood after an overnight fast. It is one of the primary tests used to screen for and monitor diabetes and pre-diabetes.

Learn more

HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is the gold standard for long-term blood sugar monitoring and diabetes management.

Learn more

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation. It is a general marker of inflammation and can rise rapidly during infections, injuries, or chronic inflammatory conditions.

Learn more

Cortisol is the body's primary stress hormone, produced by the adrenal glands. It regulates metabolism, immune responses, and the sleep-wake cycle. Levels follow a natural daily rhythm, peaking in the morning and declining throughout the day.

Learn more

HDL cholesterol is the amount of cholesterol carried inside the HDL particles in your blood. Those particles pick cholesterol up from your tissues and from the artery wall and take it back to the liver. That transport is what earned HDL the nickname good cholesterol. The nickname is misleading. HDL is above all a mirror of your metabolism: the value drops with excess weight, insulin resistance, smoking and inactivity, and it is those factors that carry the risk. Drugs that raise HDL substantially do not reduce the number of cardiovascular events. And more is not always better: at very high values, mortality in large population studies turns back upwards. So never read your HDL on its own. It only takes on meaning alongside your triglycerides, your LDL and your overall risk profile.

Learn more

Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in the body, used for energy storage. Elevated levels may be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, especially when combined with other lipid abnormalities.

Related biomarkers

Biomarkers often explored alongside this test for a fuller picture.

Hormones

17-OH Progesterone

17-OH Progesterone is a precursor hormone involved in cortisol and androgen synthesis. For active individuals, this marker may provide insight into how your body manages stress hormones and supports recovery and performance.

Learn more
Hormones

ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone)

ACTH is the pituitary hormone responsible for triggering cortisol release from your adrenal glands. For active individuals, monitoring ACTH may help assess how your body adapts to training stress and supports recovery processes.

Learn more
Hormones

AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone)

AMH reflects the number of small follicles still queued up in your ovaries: the ovarian reserve. For female athletes it is a useful value because, unlike FSH, LH and estradiol, it can be drawn on any cycle day and therefore slots into an existing blood draw without any fuss. Worth knowing: AMH is not a gauge of your training load. A cycle disrupted by low energy availability shows up mainly in LH, FSH and estradiol. AMH says something about your egg supply, not about your recovery.

Learn more
Inflammation

ASTO (Antistreptolysin O)

ASO levels help identify streptococcal infections that could lead to joint inflammation and affect training. Early detection supports faster return to performance.

Learn more
Hormones

Androstenedione

Androstenedione is a precursor hormone converted into testosterone and estrogen. For active individuals, this marker may help assess hormonal pathways that influence muscle development, recovery, and overall physical performance.

Learn more
Cardiovascular

ApoA1 (Apolipoprotein A1)

ApoA1 reflects HDL function, which supports cholesterol clearance during the metabolic demands of intense training. A key marker for active individuals monitoring cardiovascular health.
