This estimate uses the Framingham model (D'Agostino, 2008) and is intended for education, not medical diagnosis. The model is validated for adults aged 30 to 74. Always discuss your risk with your doctor.

What is heart age?

Your heart age translates your cardiovascular risk into an age. If your heart is "older" than you, your risk is higher than average for your age.

How is it calculated?

This tool uses the Framingham model: it estimates your 10-year cardiovascular risk from your age, sex, cholesterol, blood pressure, smoking and diabetes, and translates that into a heart age.

Frequently asked questions

Which values do I need?

You need your total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol (in mmol/L) and your systolic blood pressure. You also indicate whether you take blood pressure medication, smoke and have diabetes.

What is the Framingham model?

The Framingham model (D'Agostino, 2008) estimates your 10-year cardiovascular risk. It is used worldwide and underpins the concept of "heart age".

Which ages does it apply to?

The model was developed and validated for adults aged 30 to 74. Outside that range the estimate is less reliable.

Are my entered values stored?

No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser: your entered values never leave your device and are not stored anywhere.

What can I do with the result?

A higher heart age is a signal to look at your cholesterol, blood pressure and lifestyle. Discuss an elevated risk with your doctor.

Want your cholesterol and blood pressure measured?

A blood test shows your cholesterol and more — so you can base your heart risk on real values.
